Throughout the year, the Antica Stamperia Armena organizes internships, workshops and events to transmit and keep alive the Armenian and Italian artistic, cultural and social traditions. Thematic events will also be organized in a foreign language (Armenian, English, German, French) to introduce the international public to the knowledge of the traditions thanks to the project of the Antica Stamperia Armena and the Venice City Hall.

Bookbinding courses

The course will focus on the artisanal creation of the typical items of Antica Stamperia Armena. The participants will learn how to create diaries and drawing papers with eco-leather cover or Doge paper in different colours. The items created will remain to the participants.

Teacher: Paolo Olbi – He worked as bookbinder for the biggest libraries in Venice (Marcianum, Querini Stampalia, Fondazione Cini) and many other private individuals. He is an expert in bookbinding and paper stationery making and currently he collaborate with Antica Stamperia Armena, creating all the products and art books using the press, testifying the this old tradition. He is one of the last master of the traditional creation of paper, printing and bookbinding.

Paper stationery course

The paper stationery course will focus on the creation of typical artisanal items of the Antica Stamperia Armena. Participants will learn how to create pencil holder, notes holders with pens, note pads and folders with elastics. Eco-leather and Doge paper covers in various colours. Two courses of two days each. The items created will remain to the participants.

Gold plating wood course

The course will be mainly based on practical activities, where every participant/attendee will have the possibility to experiment the technique of gold plating by using the mordant gilding technique. Following the different phases of implementation, with the use of the different materials of the tradition, the participant/attendee will make a gilt frame with the aging technique mimicking gold.

Teacher: Roberta Andolfi - Expert in restoration and old artifacts. For many years I have worked in construction sites in Venice and other cities, my occupation was also to handle the wooden artifacts which were painted and golden, getting close to the old gold platting and looking further into the knowledge of the traditional technique of water gilding with gold thanks to the instructions and teaching of gilder teachers. In her course she executes restoration of icons, golden frames, golden wooden artifacts and wooden artifacts and frames.

Miniature course

The participants/attendees will have the possibility to discover the miniature art and the one of handwriting/calligraphy following the old methodology. The attendees/participants will be able to paint and draw using old techniques of drawing, painting techniques and preparing the pigments which were typical in the 1400 and 1500. This miniature course will allow the attendees/participants to understand miniature art and learn how to put it into practice as it was done in the past.

Teacher: Florence Aseult - Professional miniaturist, expert in Medieval miniatures. She graduated in the French school of Medieval miniatures ISEEM, unique school in Europe. She has worked as artist of calligraphy at the Fonderia Bortoletti in the castle of Versailles, she has worked as well in the Museum of Louvre and in the Luxembourg in France. She has presented her miniatures at the Morgan Library in New York. Professional miniaturist she organizes courses of Medieval miniatures in France and in Italy, she makes creations and copies of old manuscripts. She has made a book with miniatures from V to the XV century. She lives in Venice.
